Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji has shared a surprising childhood story, revealing that she was reportedly handed over to the wrong family shortly after her birth.
During an interview, Rani recalled that newborn babies at the hospital were taken away for routine medical examinations, with identification tags used to distinguish them. According to the actress, she was accidentally taken to a Punjabi family, while their newborn daughter was brought to Rani’s mother, Krishna Mukerji.
Rani said her mother immediately sensed that something was wrong when she saw the baby. She noticed that the child’s eye colour was different and reportedly told the hospital staff that the baby was not her daughter, explaining that her own daughter had brown eyes.
Following the search, hospital staff reportedly discovered that Rani had been mistakenly taken to the Punjabi family, whose eighth daughter had been born at the time.
Rani said the family later continued to joke about the incident, telling her that she was actually Punjabi and had accidentally ended up in the Mukerji family.
Born on March 21, 1978, to filmmaker and director Ram Mukerji and Krishna Mukerji, Rani went on to become one of Bollywood’s most recognised actresses, earning acclaim for her performances in numerous successful films.
