Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member of the Punjab Assembly Amjad Ali Javed has claimed that female graduates holding MA and MSc degrees have been hired in schools across Punjab on a monthly salary of Rs8,000, alleging that the arrangement violates the province’s minimum wage law.
Speaking on the issue, the lawmaker said paying highly educated women such a low amount is unfair and inconsistent with the legally prescribed minimum wage.
“Rs8,000 today is barely enough to cover rickshaw fare,” Amjad Ali Javed remarked, arguing that the amount is insufficient to meet even basic daily expenses.
He urged the government to review the salaries of these employees and ensure they are paid in accordance with the law, so that qualified women receive fair compensation for their services.
