An alleged armed robbery at the popular tourist destination of Babusar Top has raised serious concerns about the safety of travelers and tourists visiting the area.

Tariq Wazir, a student from Gilgit-Baltistan, has appealed to the government, police and district administration for immediate assistance after allegedly being robbed while traveling from Gilgit to Islamabad.

According to Tariq Wazir, he was traveling with friends in vehicle number BMG-115 when their vehicle was allegedly stopped near Babusar Top by around 10 armed men. He claims that the suspects threatened them with weapons and took away valuables, including his passport and national identity card.

The student says he is scheduled to travel abroad on September 2, and the loss of his passport and other travel documents could seriously affect his journey and, potentially, his education.

He has urged the authorities to take immediate notice of the incident, identify and arrest those responsible, and help him obtain replacement travel documents on an emergency basis.

The alleged incident is particularly concerning because Babusar Top is one of the region’s major tourist destinations and attracts a large number of visitors every year. Tourism is also an important source of livelihood for local communities. Hotels, restaurants, transport operators, jeep services, shops and numerous other small businesses depend heavily on the arrival of tourists.

Any incident that creates a perception of insecurity on the roads could therefore have consequences far beyond the immediate victims. If tourists begin to feel unsafe, public confidence in the area’s tourism infrastructure could suffer.

There are also claims that a group of around ten people may be involved in the alleged robbery. However, this aspect has yet to be independently established, and whether the incident was carried out by an organized gang can only be determined through a proper investigation by the police and relevant authorities.

The authorities now face an important test. They need to investigate the alleged robbery promptly and transparently, assist the affected student in securing emergency travel documents, and review security arrangements along Babusar Top and other major tourist routes.

Because tourism is not only about beautiful mountains and breathtaking landscapes. A tourist’s sense of safety is equally important.

If incidents of this nature are allowed to continue without an effective response, the consequences could extend to the entire local tourism economy and the livelihoods of people who depend on visitors.

The question now is simple: Will the authorities act quickly to identify those responsible and restore a sense of security at Babusar Top, or will tourists continue to face uncertainty on one of the region’s most important travel routes?
