Pakistani boxer Fatima Zahra has created history by winning a bronze medal in the women’s 60kg boxing event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

She was defeated in the semifinal by Canadian boxer Maria, but her place in the last four secured Pakistan a bronze medal.

Earlier, Fatima advanced to the semifinals after defeating New Zealand’s Jordan Wilson in the quarterfinal.

This achievement is historic as Fatima Zahra has become the first Pakistani woman boxer to win a medal at the Commonwealth Games, while it is also Pakistan’s first boxing medal at the Games since 2014.

After the bout, Fatima said she had hoped to win gold but described the bronze medal as a major milestone for women’s boxing in Pakistan, adding that it reflects the progress of the country’s female athletes.
