QUETTA: A tense security situation has emerged in Balochistan following an attack by armed assailants on a police post and a Customs warehouse in the Ziarat Cross area of Pishin, while a separate clash between security forces and armed men has also been reported in Dalbandin.

According to police sources, armed men attacked the police post and Customs warehouse at Ziarat Cross late at night. The attack was followed by intense exchange of fire between security forces and the attackers.

Police sources said that after the gunbattle, the attackers set fire to vehicles parked inside the Customs warehouse. The incident triggered a major fire at the facility.

Rescue teams from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) were dispatched to the scene after receiving information about the blaze.

PDMA officials said the fire in the vehicles parked inside the warehouse was brought under control, while cooling operations continued to prevent the fire from reigniting.

According to officials, 12 ambulances were also deployed at the scene to assist in the emergency response and transport casualties to medical facilities.

Police sources said several security personnel were wounded in the attack, while five security personnel were reported martyred.

The bodies of the deceased personnel and the injured were being shifted to hospitals, while security forces launched a clearance operation in the area following the attack.

Meanwhile, a separate clash between security forces and armed men was reported in Dalbandin, where security forces allegedly engaged and killed several armed individuals.

Videos reportedly showing the bodies of armed men killed during the encounter have also surfaced. However, the identities of the deceased and further details regarding the operation have not yet been officially disclosed.

Security operations have been continuing in different parts of Balochistan amid heightened concerns over militant activity.

In a separate recent operation in Washuk, security forces reportedly killed two suspected militants during an intelligence-based operation. Security sources had alleged that the suspects were involved in attacks on a police station and a Customs facility in Mashkhel.

Following the Ziarat Cross attack, security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a clearance and search operation. Investigations are also underway to determine the identities of the attackers and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities are expected to release further details as the security operation progresses and casualty figures are officially confirmed.
