Telangana, India: Police in Telangana’s Nalgonda district say they have solved the murder case of 48-year-old school principal Kalu Rupa Reddy, arresting two Class 10 students in connection with the case.

Rupa Reddy was found dead at her home on August 12. Police said she had suffered multiple stab wounds. Investigators examined CCTV footage, forensic evidence, fingerprints and the movements of several suspects.

The investigation reportedly took a major turn when police noticed that several students had stopped attending school after the killing. Two of them also appeared to be spending unusually large amounts of money and throwing parties for friends, raising suspicion.

According to police, the students had previously been reprimanded by the principal after cash and mobile phones were allegedly found in their hostel bags. They were subsequently moved out of the hostel arrangement, which investigators believe may have contributed to resentment toward the principal.

Police allege that the two students later planned a robbery at Rupa Reddy’s home to obtain money. Investigators say they monitored the house for several days and obtained a knife and gloves before the alleged crime.

According to the police account, one student entered the house disguised with a cap and gloves. After allegedly being recognized by the principal, the robbery reportedly turned into a fatal attack.

Police claim to have recovered Indian currency, an iPhone, the victim’s mobile phone and other items from the suspects. Some recovered notes reportedly contained bloodstains.

Investigators also said the students had searched online for ways to make money quickly before the incident.

Police say further evidence is being collected and legal proceedings are continuing. The allegations against the students will ultimately be determined by the court.
