Indian cricketer and Delhi Capitals player Abhishek Porel has been arrested following a complaint filed by a medical student, with a case registered against him over allegations including rape, criminal intimidation and other serious offences.
According to Indian media reports, police confirmed that the case was registered in June after the medical student approached authorities with her complaint. The woman reportedly told police that she had been in a relationship with Porel for around three years.
According to her complaint, Porel allegedly promised to marry her, and she said their physical relationship developed on the basis of that promise. She later alleged that he refused to marry her and began distancing himself from her.
The complainant also accused the cricketer of physical assault and issuing alleged criminal threats.
Police began investigating the allegations after receiving the complaint. Reports say the Calcutta High Court subsequently directed police to arrest Porel, following which he was taken into custody.
Porel has reportedly denied the allegations previously made against him. The claims made in the complaint have not yet been legally proven, and the investigation is continuing.
The 27-year-old left-handed batter has been part of the Indian Premier League since 2023, representing the Delhi Capitals. During the previous season, he scored 108 runs in four innings for the franchise.
The case is now proceeding through the legal and investigative process, and further details are expected to emerge as authorities examine the evidence.
It is important to note that the allegations of rape, assault and intimidation mentioned in this report are based on the complainant’s claims and have not been established as facts by a court.
