The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Peshawar has announced the results of the 2026 annual matric examinations, revealing that more than 10,000 students failed the Islamic Studies subject, making it the subject with the highest failure rate in Grades 9 and 10.
According to the board, 97,950 students appeared in the Grade 9 examinations, while 57,847 students were promoted to Grade 10.
Education experts say the high failure rate in a compulsory subject like Islamic Studies raises serious concerns about teaching quality, curriculum effectiveness, examination standards, and the overall education system.
They have urged education authorities to investigate the reasons behind the poor performance and introduce reforms to improve learning outcomes.
